A Clean Slate

I keep the URL to this blog in my profile. It was likely a mistake, but I was the one who decided to jump on the bandwagon and start blogging my Second Life back in 2006. Since, I’ve dropped off the face of the grid twice, had some major changes in my real life situation, adjusted the way I thought about some of the societal norms of SL, and generally abandoned blogging any of the metaverse-related items that I should have been paying attention to.

And yet, the URL stayed in my profile, giving old posts to anyone who happened to glance at it.

I don’t want to give this blog up. I’ve been inundating my personal thoughtspace with things pertaining to Second Life, and I need to separate them again. At the same time, looking at all of those old posts gives me a headache and doesn’t inspire me to do more–so I’ve done the least sensible thing I could think of. I’ve deleted all of my old posts and am starting anew.

Here’s my introduction:

Hi. I’m Patience, call me Pati. I’ve been in SL since July of 2006, and generally have spent most of my time at the Shelter. The name is ironic, based on the trope of naming one’s children after the sort of virtues one hopes they’d have. I enjoy helping new people, get irritated with idiots, and get really squicked out by the way that some people use Second Life to do nothing more than play house complete with baby dolls.  I’ve made some good friends in-world, seen people grow and change, and watched others grow beyond it and leave it behind. I get irritated at it, but find that I can’t quite leave it completely–and at the moment, I live in a very rural area and it helps to have the outlet.

Hope to be seeing y’all much more often.
